A|The Work I Do
I work on several software projects, and most of them begin with a problem that I understand from experience.
One project helps people learn a language, while another helps visitors discover useful tools and compare different products.
Although the projects serve different audiences, I usually describe my role in the same simple way.
I turn ideas into practical features, review the results, and decide what the team should work on next.
I use AI assistants during development, but I still need to understand the decisions that affect the final product.
An assistant can suggest an approach or explain a function, and I provide the goal and the relevant context.
When someone asks what I do, I avoid listing every framework, service, and package that I use.
Instead, I explain who the product is for and how it helps people complete a particular task.
This introduction gives the other person a clear picture before we discuss any technical details or future plans.
I do not need to sound like an expert in everything; I need to describe my work accurately and clearly.
I can discuss a technical detail later, once the other person understands the ordinary activity that the product supports.

B|Introducing a Project to Someone New
A clear project introduction answers three questions: who uses the product, what they do with it, and why it matters.
Imagine that I meet a teacher who wants to know more about the language website I am developing.
I begin with the audience and say that the site helps adults practice Chinese through short lessons and useful conversations.
Then I describe one ordinary activity, such as reading a story, saving an unfamiliar word, or reviewing yesterday’s vocabulary.
These examples explain the purpose more effectively than a long list of technical names or complicated product claims.
If the teacher asks about my responsibilities, I explain that I organize the content and guide the development work.
Other people may help with design, teaching, or engineering, and I make their different contributions clear as well.
I also mention the current stage, because an early experiment and an established service create very different expectations.
Before ending the conversation, I ask what the teacher finds useful and what information is still missing from my explanation.
Their questions help me improve both the introduction and my understanding of the people who might use the product.
A short and honest explanation also makes it easier for someone to introduce the project accurately to another interested person.
A clear project introduction answers three questions: who uses the product, what they do with it, and why it matters.
Imagine that I meet a teacher who wants to know more about the language website I am developing.
